Sherry Diana Jones

January 10, 1949 — August 18, 2023

Redford Twp.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith:  henceforth there is laid up for
me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord,
the righteous judge, shall give me at that day:
and not to me only, but unto all them also that
love his appearing.  2 Timothy 4:7-8

She fought a good fight…

On the morning of August the 18th, 2023, Heaven gained a faithful soul.  Although her family and friends would prefer that she was able to stay here and continue to do life with us, we know that she is having the time of her life now with her Savior, and that she has also been beautifully reunited with her beloved mother and father, brother Ernest ("Junior"), and many other family members and friends who have made the journey to Heaven before her.

Sherry Diana Gray was born on January 10th, 1949 in Cawood, Kentucky to Ruby & Ernest Gray, their first daughter after two sons.  She graduated from James A Cawood High School in 1967 and met her handsome Marine (Vietnam Veteran), Bill Jones, in that same year on a blind date!  They were joined in marriage on February 17th of 1968, and little Billy arrived on March 2nd of 1969.  A little girl, Sherry Renee, completed their family on April 26, 1973.

Sherry was employed by Michigan Bell for 25 years, after which she dedicated her life to caring for her daughter’s 4 children, helping guide them and care for them just as she did for her own.  To know her was to know that she considered this, and spending time with her 3 other beloved grandkids, to be her greatest achievement and her greatest joy.  Her favorite hobbies & activities became anything and everything that her seven precious grandbabies were involved in, including sports, music, plays, et cetera.  Sherry was the ultimate dedicated Mamaw/Grammy!  “Traveling granny”, we would say, as she would always spend her nights and weekends creating lasting memories with us all.  It was a family joke how many photos and videos she took every time we got together, but we sure are glad to have them all now.  “Just 1 more”

Sherry leaves behind her loving husband of 55 years Bill Sr., son Bill Jones Jr., (Dana), daughter Sherry Renee Lockhart (Troy), beloved grandchildren Jamison Jones, Carly Lockhart, Riley Lockhart, Micah Jones, Sarina Jones, Addison Lockhart, and Jack Lockhart.  She also leaves behind her brother Johnny (Barb) Gray, sisters Mickey Burt and Judy (Roger) Sergent, as well as several nieces, nephews, many extended family members, and friends.

Although our hearts are broken and will undoubtedly take some time to heal, we are so full of gratitude for the years we had with our sweet Sherry.  She was loved by all who were blessed enough to know her!

Sherry will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI where she will await reunification with her husband Bill.  Veteran Affairs will always hold a special place in her heart as they provide some of life’s greatest services and benefits to those who have fought and continue to fight for the freedom of our country.

A family celebration of Sherry's life will be planned for a later date.
