Patrick "Pat" Howard Casey, 98, of Livonia, Michigan, entered into eternal rest on September 12, 2026.

Pat was born on March 24, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan. He was a loving husband to the late Phyllis Palazzolo Casey for 67 years. He was a devoted father to his children, Sue Casey (Leo Padot), Patrick M. Casey (the late Kathleen), Steve Casey (Patty), Elizabeth Casey (James), Margaret Schaltz (Randy), John Casey (Sandy), Catherine Custard, Rosalie Grossman (Gary) and JoAnne Roney (Todd). He was a proud grandpa to his 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Pat was preceded in death by his siblings, Diane Magoulick (Dan), Virginia Casey and Gerald Casey (Katie). His greatest joy was his family, and he took immense pride in the people they became and treasured spending time with those he loved.

A devout Catholic, Pat was a longtime member of St. Genevieve Parish where he was an usher and brought communion to the homebound. He prayed the rosary daily and lived his faith. Pat was a Korean War Army Veteran and retired from the Detroit Police Force as a lieutenant. He was a hard worker, working two jobs at times to provide for his family. He was always there to help others but was the last one to ask for help.

Pat was a member of the Knights of Equity, The Italian American Club of Livonia, the VFW, and The Detroit Police Lieutenants and Sergeants Association. He loved to travel by car, driving all over the United States in his green station wagon filled with kids, a makeshift car top carrier and extra spare tires. Pat enjoyed a good meal, antique cars, dancing with his wife, fishing, wine making and winning a game of cards, which he usually did. If an episode of Star Trek was airing, you would find Pat in front of the TV, uninterruptable, even if you were trying to introduce him to his future son-in-law. He loved the people who agreed to marry his children, so much so, that when one fiancé accidentally crashed through his garage door, his response was, “you still have to marry her”.

He took pride in his vegetable garden and patiently held the ladder so his grandkids could pick apples. Visitors were well fed by his Italian wife, but Pat made sure beverages were poured and that guests didn’t drink alone. His ever-present dry sense of humor and laid-back demeanor were instrumental in raising 9 children. His motto was “keep smiling”, which he did, right up until his final days. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed but is assuredly dancing among the stars with his bride once again.

Visitation and a Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, September 24th, 2026 at St. Genevieve – St. Maurice Catholic Church located at 29015 Jamison, Livonia 48154. Visitation will start at 10:30 AM followed by mass at 11:00 AM.
