Patricia Florence Smith (Norris)

Patricia (Pat) Florence Smith (Norris), age 91 of Farmington Hills, MI passed away peacefully on August 30, 2022.

Pat was born in Toronto, Ontario Canada on June 21, 1931 and was adopted by her aunt and uncle (Ted and Florence Norris) in 1941. She graduated from Detroit Redford High School and went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree from Albion College.

Pat was married to Douglas Alexander Smith on December 28, 1954, and they were married for 63 years until Doug passed away in 2018.

Pat worked as a graphic artist/key liner for Jam-Handy Corporation and Detroit Art Services and also for Stitch ‘N Time as a clerk and a teacher.

Pat was also very involved in her churches (St. Paul’s Presbyterian in Livonia and First Presbyterian of Northville.) She served as a Deacon, sang in the choir, and volunteered on several other committees, always giving of her time and artistic talents.

Pat enjoyed many hobbies including knitting, cross-stitching (for which she won several awards), quilting, making greeting cards, gardening, Camp Fire Girl Leader, volunteering with AAUW and her sorority Zeta Tau Alpha. She worked as an Early Literacy Volunteer in the Livonia Public Schools, teaching 1st graders how to read. She also wrote and illustrated children's books and became a published author at the age of 80. Pat excelled at remembering friends and family with cards, sharing her love of gardening, and baking the best pumpkin bread ever!

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Florence and loving husband, Douglas. She is survived by her three cherished daughters, Cynthia (Lari), Debra (Scott) and Susan (Matt). Pat was blessed to have seven amazing grandchildren, Jessica (Ian), Cory, Drew (Blair), Emily (Evan), Erin (Brett), Brandon, and Haley. Pat also was fortunate to know and love her two great granddaughters, Amelia, and Eliza. Pat is also survived by a sister, sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Pat's family will receive friends for a memorial gathering on Friday September 9, 2022 from 3-8 pm at the Manns Family Funeral Home, 17000 Middlebelt Road, Livonia MI.

Her life will be celebrated with a memorial service on Saturday September 10, 2022 at 11:00am at the First Presbyterian Church of Northville, 200 E. Main Street, Northville MI.
