Marilyn Churchill

Marilyn was 86 years of age at the time of her death. She lived a life of enthusiastic service and was loved by so many. Marilyn was born in Flint, Michigan on March 24, 1926, to Arzola and Forrest Gilbert. She had an older sister, Wanda, and later, a brother, DeForrest. As a young girl, she took folk dance and singing lessons and also played the piano. She sang in choirs in both school and church and continued singing throughout her life. In 1946, she married the boy next door, Winston Churchill. When she found out he played the violin, she knew they would make beautiful music together. Together, they raised three children: Melody, Perry, and Winston II. Marilyn was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was active in all her childrens' activities and was a favorite chaperone for many events. She held many leadership positions in various women's clubs and other organizations including President of the Michigan Chapter of the Girl Scouts of America. She was an active member of the church choir, often singing solos. A constant smile and the twinkle in her eyes made her loved and cherished by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. Marilyn was preceded in death by Winston, her husband of 64 years. She is survived by her loving children: Melody Lepley of Livonia, Perry Churchill of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Winston Churchill II (Gloria) of St. Petersburg, Florida. She is the sister of Wanda Meredith and the late DeForrest Gilbert. Marilyn became involved in philanthropic work in 1971, and joined many women's clubs. She is the Past President of: a?? Federation of Women's Clubs of Metropolitan Detroit a?? Kenwood Women's Club a?? Redford Women's Club a?? International Order of the King's Daughters and Sons a?? Detroit Children's Book Fair (Wayne State University) a?? Detroit Book and Author Society a?? Presbyterian Women in Redford Presbyterial Church a?? Republican Party of Redford Township. Marilyn studied Parliamentary Procedure at Schoolcraft College and served as the Parlimentarian for many clubs as well as the Wayne County Republican Convention. VISITATION: The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 18th from 12 Noon to 7:00 pm. SERVICES: Marilyn served as Deacon and Elder of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, and will be In State at the Church for final visiting on Monday, November 19th at 10:30 a.m. until the time of Services, 11 a.m. The church is located at 27475 Five Mile Road (one block West of Inkster Road,) in Livonia. A luncheon follows the Service. Interment will take place at Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia. Please share a memory or thought with the family.
