The family of Maria DiCicco announces her passing on November 28, 2025, just weeks short of her 103rd birthday. Maria’s passion for music was the heartbeat of her world. A skilled accordion, piano, and organ teacher, she taught generations of students—many of whom earned countless local, state, and national awards. A gifted musician and lifelong teacher, Maria leaves behind a legacy of many former talented students, many who are now church organists, choir directors, symphony participants, and professional band members, ensuring the world continues with the music that filled her life.
Her dedication to her profession extended beyond the classroom; she spent decades organizing musical and cultural events, often for charity and always for the joy of sharing music with others. Even into her late 90s, Maria continued to bring communities together through performance, celebration, and her unwavering belief in the power of the arts.
Maria also embraced life’s simple joys. Even after losing her sight, she continued to crochet beautiful shawls and afghans for family and friends. She loved playing cards and was a serious, enthusiastic competitor at both euchre and poker. She also enjoyed bingo, especially with big pots at stake. Her evenings were reserved for Jeopardy at 7:00, and she rarely missed a Detroit Tigers game, whether on the radio or television. She was a life-long crossword devotee, and enjoyed word games, especially The Family Feud, begging her family to apply to be on the show. The digital world delighted her— when questions arose in conversation that no one had an answer for she would encourage her family to “ask your phone,” a phrase that never failed to bring a smile.
She will be missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.
Maria will be In-State on Friday, December 5, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the time of her funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Genevieve - St. Maurice Catholic Church, 29015 Jamison, Livonia 48154.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that a donation in Maria’s name be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester, Michigan.
