Joseph Shelide

Joseph Shelide of Livonia, affectionately known as ‘Papa Joe’, walked through the Pearly Gates at the age of 83 on Saturday, May 7, 2016. He was the beloved husband of the late Joyce-Ann Shelide (1981). Loving father of Maria (Pete) Glass, Joseph Shelide, Michael (Lori) Shelide, Michelle (Edward) Kobal, Jeffery (Michele) Shelide, Janine Shelide, Marlene (Steve) Limpus. Loving grandfather to Olivia, Victoria, and Ryan Glass; McKenna, and Tyler Shelide; Joyce, and J.J. Shelide; Madison, Morgan, Matthew, and Marissa Limpus. Loving son of the late Ayoub and Theresa Shelide. Little brother of the late Louis Shelide, Rita Ellis and Mary Capelli. He is survived by big brothers Fred Shelide and George Shelide. Papa Joe will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and he will be deeply missed by his feline buddy, Betty Boo. Papa Joe graduated from Eastern High School in Detroit in 1951. He served in the Korean War and was a proud Veteran (1953-1955) and retired from Blue Bird Baking Company in 1994. He was a resident of Livonia for 38 years. Papa Joe loved Tiger Baseball, Lions Football and watching horse racing. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM, with a Rosary Service at 5:30, followed by Military Honors at Manns-Ferguson Funeral Home, 17000 Middlebelt, Livonia 48154. Joseph will be In-State on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Genevieve-St. Maurice Catholic Church, 29015 Jamison, Livonia 48154.
