Obituary

John Jack Swek was born on February 11, 1946, in Delray, Michigan. At the age of 80, John passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Martha Swek, and his loving children, Timothy Swek, Pam (Robert) Sosa, Christopher (Amy) Swek, Paul (Shelley) Swek, David (Angela) Philippart, and Sara (Ryan) Vetter. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Katie (Jordan) Schut, Kevin Bean, Lt. Taya Sosa, Carson-Ryan Vetter, and Ewan Swek.

John proudly served his country for more than 31 years in the United States Army, retiring with the honorable rank of Colonel. During his distinguished military career, he completed tours in both Vietnam and Indonesia, earning numerous decorations, with the most notable being the Bronze Star. Even after retiring from active-duty John remained deeply committed to supporting his fellow veterans. He served as an advocate for Veterans Court, a member of the American Legion and an active member of the Redford, Michigan VFW, where he held several positions including Commander of the post; reflecting his lifelong dedication to service and his enduring love of country. John was also a proud member of the Military Order of the Cootie, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and continued fellowship with fellow veterans.

In addition to his admirable military service to our country, John built a successful career in banking, serving as Vice President at Comerica Bank for over 20 years, where he was well respected for his leadership and integrity. He also served his community as a Commissioner on the Police and Fire Civil Service Board and a lifelong member of the Redford Chamber of Commerce.

John found great joy in life’s simpler pleasures as well, especially his love of golf, where he valued both the game and the time spent with friends and family. He will be remembered for his dedication, leadership, and the deep love he had for his family, his country, and his community.

Visitation for John will be held Saturday, June 27th from 12:00 - 5:00 PM with Military Honors at 3:00 PM at Manns Family Funeral Home, 17000 Middlebelt, Livonia 48154.
