John “Jack” Virgil Sandberg, 100, of Livonia, Michigan, passed away on January 10, 2023, with his daughter at his side.
John was born in Jacksonville, Illinois on September 23, 1922, to Harvey and Fay (nee Skinner) Sandberg. He graduated from Pontiac High School in 1940 and continued on to receive a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Detroit after serving in WWII.
John was married to Marion Mineweaser on August 3, 1946; they were married 73 years.
John worked as a personnel manager for American Motors Corporation. While working, John was very active with Junior Achievement of Southeastern Michigan. John was a dedicated Detroit Tigers baseball fan. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, square dancing and traveling. John and his wife visited every state in the United States mainland and every province in Canada in their motor home.
John is survived by his daughter, Kristen (Merico) Foleta and his grandsons, Phillip and Nicholas. He is also survived by five sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and special cousin, Bill (Sherri) Kumle. John is preceded in death by his wife, Marion, and his parents Harvey and Fay Sandberg,
The Visitation will be held at Manns Family Funeral Home on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 12 noon. The service will be held at the funeral home on January 20, 2023, at approximately 2:00 pm
John will be buried at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Monday, January 23, 2023, at 2:30 pm.
