John Anthony Bailey was born on February 27, 1941, in Northville, Michigan to Elsie and William (Bill) Bailey. Jack (as he was known to his friends and family) passed away peacefully on May 2nd, 2022. His wife, daughters and son held vigil for the six days leading to his death, laughing, crying, and reminiscing in his presence and, for once, entertaining him.
Jack spent his childhood with his loving parents and four siblings in the small town of Northville, living in a home that was also known as The Bailey’s Dance Studio. It was here that Jack’s love of music, dance, and entertainment was kindled. Jack spent his childhood years in Northville making friends and creating mischief until he went to Michigan State University for a degree in Communications.
Jack met his wife Carolyn (Tuthill) in 1963. The two married in 1967 and were blessed with more than 54 years of marriage. With laughter and grace, the two shared a steadfast love and commitment, through thick and thin, good times and bad. They had many common interests, enjoying tennis, golf, travel, and dancing. With an immense generosity of time, energy, and spirit, they raised four children and intensely loved their eight grandchildren.
Jack worked in radio for the majority of his career. In semi-retirement, he entertained at nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Combining music, humor, and dancing, he brightened the lives of both staff and residents. When it was his time to be cared for, many of these same staff members welcomed him with open arms.
Jack was a lover of music, birds, and nature, and passed this love on to his kids and grandkids. Anyone who met him knows he was ever-ready with a quick joke or one-liner. Everywhere he went he not only made people laugh, he made them feel heard, valued, and understood. Over the years, he counseled friends and family going through difficult times, independently and through Stephen Ministries.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, his children Kristine Heidger (Nathan), John Bailey (Sharon), Lori Singleton (James), and Karen Volas (Tim); his brother Bill Bailey, and sisters June Slusarski and Racena Fischer; the grandchildren he adored, Lily and Carly Heidger, Lauren and Paige Bailey, Julian and Sophie Singleton, and Casper and Felix Volas; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Elsie and William (Bill) Bailey, and his sister Barbara Macaluso.
His lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant…” Matthew 25:23
