Joan Marguerite Schroeder

Joan Marguerite Schroeder (nee Hurley) age 97, longtime resident of Dearborn Heights, Michigan passed away peacefully early on July 17, 2023.

Joan was born in Marquette, Michigan on June 19, 1926, to Mabel and Howard Hurley. She graduated from Baraga High School in Marquette, relocating after graduation to be with her brother and sisters in Wayne, Michigan. She eventually began working in various business administrative positions.

Joan was married to Jerome “Jerry” John Schroeder of Wayne, Michigan on May 28, 1949; they were married for 59 years. They and their six children resided in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.

She was the loving and cherished mother of Janet (Jeff) Corey, David (Peggy) Schroeder, Ann (Dan) Murawski, Susan (David) Kolson, Jill (Matt) Ecker, and the late Karen. Joan was the dearest Grandmother of 9, and Great-grandmother of 18, and sister of Marion Stringer, Patricia Norton, and Helen Canfield.

Joan was preceded in death by husband Jerry, daughter Karen, brother Howard Hurley, sister Donna Gentry.

She was dedicated to raising her family in the home Jerry and she built and lived in for over 55 years. Joan loved celebrating birthdays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. She was a very sociable person, creating many longstanding friendships with people she met through her involvement in choir, chorale, bridge, and scrabble groups. Joan enjoyed traveling with her husband, Jerry, and close friends. Those travels led to developing a keen interest in butterflies.       

The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, July 20^th from 3:00 – 8:00pm with a Rosary Service at 7:00pm at Manns Funeral Home, 17000 Middlebelt, Livonia 48154. A funeral mass will be held at St. Priscilla's Catholic Church, 19120 Purlingbrook, Livonia 48152 on Friday, July 21^st at 10:00am with visiting at 9:30am. The burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at a later date.
