Howard Wallace Hester, age 92, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, faithfulness, and service.
Howard was born on April 13, 1934, in Russellville, Alabama, to William Porter Hester and Mary Elizabeth Hester. He was raised with strong values of family, hard work, and integrity.
Howard proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict as a Staff Sergeant in the Motor Division. His military service reflected the discipline, dedication, and commitment that marked his life.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Jean Hester; his son, Michael Hester; and his brother, Robert William Hester.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Higgins Hester; his son, David Ray Hester; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Nina Faye Lastowski and Drusilla Allen Adelmann.
Howard, along with his wife Sharon, founded and supported the Basket of Hope Children’s Feeding Program in Kenya, providing hope and nourishment to children and families in need, as well as ministering to pastors and women leaders along the Kenyan coast.
Howard will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His life reflected hard work, dedication, compassion, and quiet strength.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
A memorial service for Howard will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Parkview Memorial Cemetery, 34205 Five Mile, Livonia, 48154.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Basket of Hope.
