With deep sadness and abiding faith, we share that Fr. Howard Vogan passed peacefully into eternal life on October 29, 2025 at the age of 82. His gentle spirit, devoted ministry, and unwavering love for Christ touched countless lives.
Father Vogan was born on May 9, 1943 in Toledo, Ohio and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 7, 1969. He served as associate pastor of St. Rita Parish, Detroit (1969-1972), and St. Regis Parish, Bloomfield Hills (1972-1976), pastor of St. Joseph Parish, South Lyon (1976-1998) as well as serving on the archdiocesan Marriage Tribunal (since 1981). He served as pastor at St. Genevieve, Livonia (from 1998), and additionally St. Maurice, Livonia (from 2006) until the two parishes merged in 2012. Fr. Vogan served as pastor of the combined St. Genevieve-St. Maurice Parish until he was granted Senior Status July 1, 2020.
Father Vogan is predeceased by his parents, Howard and Margaret Vogan, his sister Margaret “Meg” Vogan, nephew Scott Vogan, niece Rachel Vogan, and grandnephew Hayden Vogan. Father Vogan is survived by his sister, Dolores Onnenga (the late Harry Onnenga), nieces CarrieAnne Campbell (Ken Campbell), Kristen Vogan (Michael Zent), nephew Cory Cripe (Mechelle Zarou), grandnephew Grant Zelasko, grandnieces Alexandria Zelasko (Dan Price), Kayela Holcomb (Raese Holcomb), Natalee Vogan, Bridghid Vogan, Kameron Campbell (Jacob Duckett), and great-grandnephew Ivan Scott Holcomb.
Father Vogan will lie In-state at St. Genevieve-St. Maurice Parish, 29015 Jamison St., Livonia, MI 48154, on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass at 12 noon. Burial will be at a later date at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
May Fr. Vogan rest in the peace of Christ, whom he served so faithfully.
