Judith "Judy" Ellen Parsons Brady, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away on May 6, 2019. She was 59 years old.
Judy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 22, 1959, to Jack and Joan Parsons. She graduated from Southfield High School and continued on to receive her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from Michigan State University.
Judy was married to Robert (Bob) Brady on August 6, 1983. They fell in love as students at Michigan State and were married for 35 years – together as a couple for 40. They built their lives together in Michigan, settling in Brighton in 1988 where they raised their family; moving to Ann Arbor in 2015.
Judy was the beloved mother of Megan Lowry, Lauren Brady and Allison Tobel. A strong, loving and generous mom, she valued each of her daughter’s unique qualities. She enjoyed close relationships with all of them, often talking to them several times a week. Her pride in her work, emphasis on education and athletics and strong values continue to drive her daughters today.
She was Mimi to grandson Andrew Brady Lowry, and loved to sing, color and build garages for his cars with him.
A nurse practitioner, Judy worked for the University of Michigan Health System for 30 years. She cared deeply for her patients, and sought to forge a connection with everyone she encountered. She truly enjoyed her colleagues and the opportunity to work with people from all backgrounds.
She spent many years of her career in Family Medicine, and went on to become the first nurse practitioner to work at the University’s Allergy and Immunology practice. There she played dual roles as a clinician and a researcher, supporting clinical trials to develop a new treatment for peanut allergies in children. She also paved the way for more nurse practitioners to join the practice, writing job descriptions and training the NPs that followed.
Outside of her work, Judy loved animals. She supported local English Pointer rescues, fostering and adopting several dogs of her own. She was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brighton, serving as both a deacon and an elder. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, especially visiting her daughters in Washington, D.C., and lounging on the beaches of Ft. Lauderdale. She always appreciated a good glass of wine, dark chocolate or a margherita pizza.
Judy is survived by her husband, Bob, and her daughters and their husbands: Megan and Ryan Lowry, Lauren Brady and Jeff Hasmonek, and Allison and Garrett Tobel. Also her grandson, Andrew Brady Lowry, brother, Jeff Parsons, and nieces and nephews: Erin Smith, Kaitlin Breslin, Matt Merritt, Nash Parsons and Sarah Cate Parsons, as well as other family and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church in Brighton. The Visitation will be held at 11am, followed by a Memorial Service at noon.
